What is the Yin Yoga?

Yin Yoga is a branch of Hatha Yoga, in which the asanas (postures) are held in a relaxed manner for between 2 and 8 minutes. Holding each posture for this time allows us to deepen the physical work and helps the mind to ground and calm down, while stimulating the prana (vital energy). All this leads to a deep level of relaxation both physically, mentally and emotionally. An ideal state to enter into meditation. The most different thing about this practice, as its name suggests (Yin), is that we do not activate the muscles of the body when we hold asana. It is a slow practice where most of the movements are performed on the floor. And because the postures are held passively, a very wide level of stretching is achieved, resulting in immense physical and mental calmness. This holding of the posture allows gravity to act on the body, and the stretches reach deeper layers, mobilising the connective tissue of ligaments and joints.
